The Challenge

Cognitive Publishing is a respected print & online media company who focus on 1) rail technology; 2) public sector management; & 3) healthcare management.

This is the first of three websites to be designed & developed by Senior for Cognitive Publishing.

The Rail Technology Magazine website was primarily needed to fully utilise their online presence & in turn, facilitate a much-improved reader experience.

They wanted it to match the latest magazine sites available on the net, whilst having an edge on its competitors in the specialist rail market.

A key requirement for the site was to present lots of news items with the ability to showcase selected stories. In addition, they wanted to make better use of data collection through the website by delivering highly targeted advertising dependent on the readers’ interests.

The Approach

The first step was to converse with Cognitive Publishing over their website requirements – this ensured alignment of objectives on both sides & helped us understand their vision.

Our sophisticated web-based content management system, River CMS, offers a flexible & future-proof platform for delivering Cognitive Publishing’s requirements; thus it was selected as the platform for the new website.

The new site uses the latest callout technology in River CMS to cleverly display information on the various pages. Drag & drop facilities give Cognitive Publishing a great deal of flexibility in layout; enabling our client to create their own look & feel of the pages.

River was also successfully integrated with Adtech, which fulfils the requirement to provide targeted advertising for its users.

The Result

The new Rail Technology Magazine site successfully presents them as must-read specialist news for their target readers.

The information-rich site is easy to navigate & contains quirky features, like ‘Top Story’ & ‘Latest 3 Stories’ – this facilitates a greatly improved reader experience, an essential requirement outlined by Cognitive Publishing.

Highly targeted advertising has been enabled through integration with Adtech & thus Cognitive Publishing have made much better use of their data collection; in turn increasing revenue streams from the website.

Cognitive Publishing is highly satisfied with their new Rail Technology site & this is the best result that could be hoped for!
